Assembler or Maker
I was asked an interesting question the other day when I was describing the things I make, "Do you make that or just assemble that?" This question caught me a bit off guard. I assemble everything I make, but am I just assembling things and not really making anything? Am I not really creating anything? I felt like a fraud. Like somehow I wasn't an artist of any sort, but merely a worker on an assembly line cranking out product. Maybe this is a byproduct of having to mass produce for the upcoming shows? Or maybe this whole time I have just been assembling and not creating? I now critically analyze everything I work on. Is this just assembly, or am I creating?
